Hello Collaboration Families,
Hello families! STAR testing has been completed. Parent teacher conferences are coming up at the end of October. This link will take you to a survey for your opinion on virtual/in-person conferences. Tomorrow our house will be learning in the Road Runner room as work on our classroom floors will begin. Also, Scholastic book orders should be here this week Thursday, or next week Monday. In ELA, book clubs are underway! Students are responsible for completing their book club reading every day for discussion with their club the following day. Teaching slides and homework details can be found in Schoology under Bend 2, Lesson Slides. These can be used for absences, or if your child is confused about work expectations once they’ve returned home. In Social Studies, we've begun a new unit on European Explorers. Students will begin research on an explorer with a partner this coming week. In Math, we are finishing our first Math Module about place value patterns and multiplication with whole numbers. We will take our first Math Assessment tomorrow. Please check with your child about their homework to make sure they understand how to find it and that it is being completed. In Science, we are diving into Ecosystems and how they work. Today, we played a food chain game that the students really enjoyed and got a lot out of. Talk with your child about their food chain adventure today and check out the photos below from this fun activity. Next week we will be looking at plant life and decomposers and their roles in Ecosystems. Hello families! Due to quite a few absences we are just finishing up STAR testing. We will go over these with you at conferences. We’re really getting into the school year! As we have, you may have noticed that some work is coming home to be finished. We give students a nice chunk of time during both Math and ELA to finish classwork. Any classwork that is not completed in class can then be finished in WIN or at home as homework. In ELA, we’ll begin book clubs this week! This will be the start to Bend 2 of unit 1. Teaching slides and homework details can be found in Schoology under Bend 1, Lesson Slides. These can be used for absences, or if your child is confused about work expectations once they’ve returned home. In Social Studies, we'll be finishing our unit on maps. In Math, we are well into our first Math Module about place value patterns and multiplication with whole numbers. Please check with your child about their homework to make sure they understand how to find it and that it is being completed. In Science, we are diving into Ecosystems and how they work. We are having such a great time getting to know your children and watching them grow. These students have such amazing and unique qualities that allow for great discussions and activities. STAR testing has been a huge success and most students have completed both sections. These tests are much shorter than MAP testing and give us great insight into how your child learns, but they are just one of the ways we assess student knowledge. We will send home information about your child’s test results after we’ve had a chance to review the results and go over it with your child. Remember these results are just a snapshot of what your child knows on this particular day and time, not their overall ability or a reflection of their intelligence. Growth is what we’re looking for, not just academic achievement. In ELA, we've started unit 1, Interpretation Book Clubs. Students will be grouped with others who have chosen the same book by the end of next week. In Social Studies, we'll continue our short unit called Map Skills. Students are in groups creating their own cities. In Math, we are continuing to build our math mindset through activities and discussion. We will also begin our first Math Module about place value patterns. In Science, we are diving into Ecosystems and how they work. Mrs. Cantu and Mrs. Potts Happy second week of school! This newsletter will be available on Wednesdays on our website (attached below). It has been so great getting to know your child! We are cruising along and doing great things! Assignment notebooks are being passed out today. Check out the homework board, or your child’s assignment notebook for a peek at what’s due and what’s coming next. Don’t forget to send in the paper all about your child next week Monday. Next week we’ll be STAR testing on Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
In ELA, we're building new relationships, getting to know the Library, and starting our reading logs. Students will be asked to read for 20 minute at home every day, or during W.I.N. at school. In Social Studies, we’ll be beginning a fairly short unit called Map Skills. In Math, we are building our math mindset through activities and discussion. In Science, we are diving into Ecosystems and how they work.
