Hello Families! We are so excited to work with your child this year! 5th grade is such an exciting time of transformation and growth, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to help your child make a smooth transition into Lineville! This is going to be an exciting year! Your child has been placed in Collaboration Cabin. Mrs. Potts will be teaching Math and Science in our house, and Mrs. Cantu will be teaching ELA and Social Studies. In Collaboration Cabin, we have a hands-on, project-based philosophy of education and have many labs, projects, and activities planned for your child to engage in this school year! Our house will be engaging, challenging, and fun for your child. Things for you to know: Communication: We will send weekly newsletters via email. You are also encouraged to follow our house on Twitter (@CollaborationC2) for photo updates on what’s going on in your child’s classrooms. Also, we have a house website with useful information and more photos. Please visit and explore: https://collaborationcabin.weebly.com/ We do our best to reply to emails by the next business day. In general, we try to limit our communication to within school days, though there may be occasional exceptions. Homework Policy: Homework will be assigned weekly. Please check out our homework board to see what your child needs to have completed each week. Incomplete homework assignments will cause students to miss free choice time or have to stay in during recess. Please help us in encouraging your child to complete assignments on time and let us know if there are any concerns or challenges that might keep your child from completing assignments at home/independently. In general, we do not assign an abundant amount of homework and many students finish their homework assignments during class and W.I.N. time. If you are ever wondering if your child is completing homework assignments on time, please do not hesitate to reach out. iPad Policy: Our expectation is that iPads are fully charged each night. We do not allow students to bring chargers to school for charging because we do not have enough outlets and chargers are often misplaced which results in a fine and is not covered by insurance. We recommend having a routine or having your child set an iPad alarm to remind them to plug it in before going to bed each night. At this age we focus on organization and personal responsibility, so these habits can be built now and set students up for success in the future. House Apparel: We are handling house apparel a bit differently this year. Students will be designing the shirts and hoodies together as a class and will participate in creating them if they would like to order. Lockers: Students will have access to a locker this year, but we will not be using locks, so students should leave any unnecessary valuables at home. Cell phones/Smart Watch Policy: Lineville’s policy is that cell phones are turned off (not just silenced) while in the building and any parent contact should be through the front office. Smartwatches should have cellular connections turned off and placed in school mode or do not disturb mode during school hours. Cell phones need to remain in backpacks and should not be seen at all during the school day. If a cell phone or smartwatch becomes an issue for your child, they will be collected by the teacher and kept in the front office for pick up by a parent. Please reinforce this with your child as these items become very distracting and disruptive to the learning of other students as well. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us! We look forward to partnering with you this year! Sincerely, |
Mrs. Potts
